It was a tiring day at work... mainly because I surprisingly had a hard time sleeping last night, as well as right now... its 3 am. I just had a lot to do again. I think this week has been bad time management on my part. I felt really off this week with prepping and inventory. It really bugs me that I was off. We have too many greens and had a lot of chix breasts. I felt like i did not know what we needed and currently had. It just one of those times when you just happen to be off your game a little.
Anyways, good eats today I must say. For family meal today, spaghetti with chix breast, ground beef, diced tomatoes, parsley, and toasted buns. For those that do not know what family meal is... a most restaurants, instead of eating the expensive product you serve to customers, we use the cheaper products, leftovers, etc. to make our breakfast, lunches, and dinners. In my case the other line cook makes it for everyone, everyday... if I ever actually had the time to do it I would... prepping for two stations is a pain. Especially since I'm not too much of a morning person. Anyhoo, I spiced up my bun by taking the garlic oil and some parm for some garlic bread! Yum!... A good tip for a garlic bread... toast it first with either olive oil or butter, then after its nice and toasty, grab a clove and basically grate the clove on the bread... it will have a sexy garlic-y taste to it! :-D
So after work I decided to nap because I was tired. Then I headed to one of my recently favorite new places on Santa Monica Blvd, Cafe 50s http://www.cafe50s.com/! I had gone there twice before tonight. The first time was to get a shake. Oh my gosh, I really do love their shakes! The only one I have had and love right now, is their snicker shake. I add malt to mine! Then last weekend I had the shake again and their awesome garlic and chedder fries! Tonight, I had a rueben sandwich and the garlic and chedder fries. I had my cravings. I decided to cut back on the shake. :-p So what's great about this place? The decor... 50s everywhere, icons, magazines, toys, candy, etc., granted I am not old enough to say I grew up during those times, but I have defintely enjoyed things from that era... like... I LOVE LUCY! They show episodes of I Love Lucy! Another great thing that I really like about this place is how they have games that you can play with and it brings me back to my childhood... connect four, operation, uno, barrel of monkeys, etc. It is a great environment for family and just an awesome place to hang out with friends. They also play 50s music and for a quarter you can choose a song! :-p Another thing is this Cafe 50s has been around for 20 years! So right now they are giving a 20% discount on your check and giving you a yellow envelope that you are not suppose to open until June where you can win a prize! Lastly, they have a rewards card! I did not find out about this until today! They had asked me if I had one and I was like rewards card? Like the one you get a ralphs... pretty much the same thing, if you sign up for one you can get discounts, free stuff etc., and you get an actual card! They have friendly service, which I love and I absolutely believe it is necessary to have great service. So go check it out!
I had a late night snack when I got into San Diego with my cousin. We went to City Delicatessen & Bakery http://www.citydeli.com/, located in Hillcrest on University Ave. My cousin had actually showed me this place back when I was in high school and I had always meant to go back but I couldnt remember where it was. Anyways, since he was back in town we had been back twice. Last time, we had the pickled herring, smoked salmon, wings of fire, and mac and cheese. I know, I know most of it sounds weird, but you know what? I absolutely enjoyed all of them! If you are not adventurous then do not get the pickeled herring. If you love wings, try them here. If you want good ol' comfort food grab there mac and cheese. The smoked salmon was great also, I love it with the bagel and cream cheese, tomatoes and lettuce. It would make a good breakfast sandwich and I say add capers and a squeeze of lemon juice! Tonight, I was not too hungry. But my cousin did have that lovely mac and cheese while I munched on their cheese blintzes, which was served with some sour cream and blueberries. I do not have much of a sweet tooth to this was perfect for me. Crepes with their blend of sweet farmer's cheeses, a dusting of powdered sugar, and a side of sour cream and macerated blueberries. Yum! A must have at this place are their rum balls... that is all I have to say about it. Also, at the table are pickles... you can have as much as you want! Just like Cafe 50s this place plays music too! Drop a quarter in the music machine right there at your table and you can choose a song, my song of choice tonight was Sugar Pie Honey Bunch! :-D One of the other reason why I love going there. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, they cater and have a full bar! They also have awesome and friendly service, again I say that is necessary and it really make you enjoy the food more! So, if you are ever down in Hillcrest in San Diego you should check this place as well!
I am signing off! Good night!
